Sheffield Utd boss needed to see Berge personally

BOSS: Sheffield United-manager Chris Wilder.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder did not give the green light to sign midfielder Sander Berge until he saw him in person.

Wilder saw Berge when he played the full 90 minutes against Sweden away in a Euro 2020 qualifier.

Sheffield United broke the clubs transfer record for the fifth time since they got promoted to the Premier League again.

Berge signed from Genk for £22million.

He got his debut against Crystal Palace.

“Sander can be pleased with his performance, he has fitted in fantastically well and certainly there is more to come,” Wilder said after the game.

“I think people have to recognise as well he is only 21. He has played in the Champions League, he has won a title in the Belgian league, but now he is in the big league and he will adapt, improve and certainly improve us as a football club.”

“He looks like a Sheffield United player, he’s athletic, he gets about the park and he can pass it. There is more to come from him obviously, but it was a tough afternoon.
