Laporte out for up to six months with injury

CITY: Aymeric Laporte.

Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte has been ruled out for five to six months after undergoing knee surgery.

The 25-year-old was stretchered off in City’s win against Brighton before the international break and Pep Guardiola confirmed the extent of his injury.

The French centre-back injured himself after a challenge with Adam Webster.

– Five months, six months. Next year sure, January or February, said Guardiola about Laporte at the press conference ahead of the Norwich game.

Laporte is perhaps Manchester Citys most important defender, so obviously it is a big blow to the reigning Premier League champions.

Otamendi?

Pep Guardiola will now have to contend in the title race against Liverpool with just Nicolas Otamendi as a fit and natural centre-back.

John Stones is also injured and the Spaniard could turn to Fernandinho moving forward, with the Brazilian playing out of position once Laporte came off on Saturday.
