United favorites to sign Rose

Jose Mourinhos team are desperate for a new left back with Luke Shaw dropping down the pecking order at the club.

Ashley Young has stepped in and played heroically in an unfamiliar role but Mourinho has made Rose his No 1 target.
Rose has not been a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino's side this season with Ben Davies often the preferred choice.
The United-target is reported to be disappointed with his situation at Tottenham, and claimed he was furious with being benched for the Arsenal clash.

Gareth Bale sidelined again

Gareth Bale made a short-lived comeback for Real Madrid against Fuenlabrada, only to be injured yet again during the cup game.

Bale had not featured since scoring in September's 3-1 Champions League win at Borussia Dortmund due to calf and groin injuries before being introduced as a second-half substitute during Tuesday's Copa del Rey fourth-round tie.

But Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane remains calm over his welsh star, claiming the injury setback is not so serious.

"It's nothing serious, it's just a niggle and when it's a little niggle we just don't want to risk anything," Zidane told a pre-match news conference.

"I can't tell you exactly when it happened, [some time] on the day of the game, when he suddenly stated having pain.

"At the end he started feeling a little bit of pain in the bottom of the calf and that was it."

Former Everton star Yakubu retires

Yakubu scored 95 goals in 252 Premier League games for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers.

He is the second-highest African goalscorer in England's top flight behind Didier Drogba.

Yakubu announced his retirement on Sky Sports.

"I would like to officially announce my retirement from professional football", he said

"Firstly, I would like to thank God for the career I have had. I would like to thank the entire Nigerian Football Federation and my Nigerian national team-mates for all the memorable years I had playing for the Super Eagles.

"I would also like to thank all the football clubs I played for. The managers, all club staff, owners, fellow players and my dearest family and friends who immensely supported me throughout my career."

West Brom sack Pulis after horrible run

The decision to remove Pulis came after a dismal run of form that leaves the Baggies in danger of relegation from the Premier League.

The weekends 4-0 loss to Chelsea sealed Pulis' destiny.

West Brom have stalled in 2017, winning only three Premier League matches since February.

Two of those victories came in the first two games of the current campaign before a torrid 10-game winless run began, with West Brom's latest result a dispiriting 4-0 home reverse to champions Chelsea.

Dani Alves: Gabriel Jesus is Brazils "new Ronaldo"

Manchester City striker Jesus scored his eighth international goal in last week's 3-1 win over Japan and appears set to play a key role at Russia 2018.

"I wasn't joking when I called him the new Ronaldo. They have a similar drive," Alves said at Brazil's pre-match press conference.

"He's already great and will get even better.

"For all that he's done, all that he's achieved, there's no pressure. He's doing what he loves."

Manes fitness in jeopardy again - sent back to Liverpool with a hamstring problem

Liverpool confirmed on monday that Mane is coming back earlier than planned. The 25-year-old has suffered from injuries over the last months, and he just made his comeback from injury in the 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham on November 4.

Still he was called up for this month's international matches for Senegal despite his lack of playing time.

Mane starred in the victory over South Africa on Friday, a result that secured Senegal's place at the World Cup.

He served an assist to Diafra Sakho's goal which led to a 2-0 victory.

Injury woe for England star

The Stoke City goalkeeper had been widely tipped to start the game against the world champions at Wembley but now adds to a lengthy injury list for boss Gareth Southgate.

"Bit of luck wouldn’t go a miss, but can’t keep me down for long! be back soon", he tweeted after the injury.

Butland, who has returned to Stoke to be assessed by his club's medical staff, sustained a broken ankle when England faced Germany in March 2016 which left him out of the England team for a long time.

Southgate has announced Eric Dier will captain the Three Lions in the absence of his Spurs colleagues.

Allardyce denies Everton contact but is open to talks

But "Big Sam" suggested he would be open to talks if the opportunity would come.

Asked if he had spoken with Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri about taking over, the 63-year-old told talkSPORT:

"No, I haven't."

However, Allardyce did not rule out of a return to management on Merseyside.

"It's like everything else, if somebody comes calling, there's the opportunity to speak, there's no doubt about that," he said.

Bilic sacked as Hammers boss

"The chairmen and board of West Ham United would like to place on record their thanks and gratitude to Slaven and his team for their services over the past two-and-a-half years, but believe a change is now necessary in order for the club to move forward positively and in line with their ambition.

"West Ham United can confirm that Bilic's coaching assistants Nikola Jurcevic, Edin Terzic, Julian Dicks and Miljenko Rak have also left the club with immediate effect.

"The club's search for a new manager to take West Ham United forward is underway and an announcement regarding Bilic’s successor is expected to be made over the coming days."

Bilic last game became a 4-1 loss to Liverpool saturday.

Dyche cools down Everton link

Everton sacked dutchman Ronald Koeman after Sunday's big defeat at home to Arsenal continued a scrappy start to the Premier League season. Evertons loss steered them down in the Premier League's bottom three.

"Nothing has changed. I mentioned last week different links with different clubs have come around but you're flattered by the fact that some of your work, by all of what we do is recognised," Dyche told the media.

"There's no story, it's other people's stories. It's not mine, but it's right that I get asked about it.

"I've been through it, I’ve had the experience of them sort of links at various times, more so, the last couple of years. I've just continued to get on with what I do here.

"It doesn’t play on the mind at all."

Jones ready for Spurs clash, says Mourinho

Jones limped off with an injury in United's shock 2-1 defeat at newly-promoted Huddersfield Town last week but the Englishman was on the bench for Tuesday's 2-0 EFL Cup victory over Swansea City.

And Mourinho said after the game that Jones is ready for Spurs.

"It was quite comfortable and no injuries, so a good day for us," said Mourinho.

"I think Jones will be [back] because, today [Tuesday], he was on the bench and he told me he will be ready in case I need him. So I believe he'll be even better for Saturday.

"Apart from that, I have no news and no hopes [for any other players]."

"Manchester City can win Champions League", says rival coach

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Napoli head coach Maurizio Sarri believe each other are destined for glory after Tuesday's pulsating Champions League encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

Sarri believes Manchester City have the quality to win the Champions League this season.

"It is a great team, they has everything, Sarri said about Manchester City.

"They are very quick, they are tactically very savvy and, if they stay in the kind of good mental and physical shape they are now, they really could go all the way."

"Guardiola was arguably even more gushing as he labelled Napoli "one of the best sides I faced in my career, probably the best".

City triumphed Napoli by 2-1.

Coleman: Wales have earned "golden era" tag

A win in Monday's meeting against Ireland in Cardiff for either side would guarantee a place in the play-off round and could be enough to seal an automatic spot in Russia, depending on group leaders Serbia's result against Georgia.

Wales have not appeared at the World Cup finals since 1958 but have made history in the last two years.

They sensationally reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016, and they earned an eighth place in the FIFA rankings in October 2015 - the highest ever in their proud history.

"I fought against it when they were labelled the 'golden bunch' before we qualified for the Euros but now they've earned it. This is a golden era," Coleman said, as quoted by The Daily Telegraph.

"[This game] is as big as anything we've been involved in.

"Dare to dream? I meant every word of that. I say that because I've seen the other side. That's why I don't have any fear. We look forward to these games because I've been in positions where I didn't know if I'd still be in a job if I'd lost that next game. To be sat here now is an absolute joy.

Lambert retires

Lambert confirmed the news in a press release.

Klopp: Liverpool must find the attacking rhythm

Liverpool could only find the net once as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Spartak on Tuesday, with Philippe Coutinho yet again finding himself on the scoresheet.

The Brazilian started alongside Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with Daniel Sturridge also introduced in the final minutes of the game. The former Chelsea player missed a sitter in the late stages which should of given Liverpool the win.

"It is good when you have all these players but it is not [just] lining up the players, they all need rhythm and it was a very intense game," Klopp said.

"It is not about the names it is about how we perform. There were good saves from both goalkeepers and wrong decisions at the decisive moment.

"That is how football is. The only way you can change it is to do it again and do it again."

Burnley completes deal for Lindegaard

Heaton suffered a dislocated shoulder during Burnley's recent 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and has been ruled out for about four months, meaning he is unlikely to return before the end of the year.

Back-up goalkeeper Nick Pope has impressed as Heaton's deputy, but the injury left manager Sean Dyche short of options in case of further fitness issues.

Lindegaard, who had been training with the club for a little over a week, joins on a free transfer until the end of the campaign after leaving Preston North End.

"I am here to try and sharpen up the competition in the goalkeepers' department and we'll see what happens down the line", Lindegaard told the club's official website.

Liverpool fails again

Liverpool is out of the Carabao Cup after the 2-0 loss to Leicester this tuesday.

"We played really good football in the first half and should have decided the game early," said Klopp according to Sky Sports.

"We had big chances. But that's football, it's 90 minutes, at least.

"Leicester somehow survive because we are not clinical enough, sometimes it's like that, but you need to stay concentrated until the end and not allow them to score. They scored too easily."

On Twitter experts was not impressed:

"Messi already playing under new contract", says Barca president

While the argentinian superstar agreed to a contract extension until 2021 in July, Messi is yet to put pen to paper on the contract with the Catalan club.

It has raised doubts over Messi's future at Camp Nou following Neymar's world-record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Barca have continually reiterated that the 30-year-old will sign his contract and Bartomeu provided another update on Thursday.

"We will take the photo with Messi's signature, hopefully before the end of the year, but the contract has been signed by his father, who has the power of his image rights," Bartomeu told 8TV.

"This contract is signed until 2021 and he is already playing under it."

Barcelona beat Juventus comfortably 3-0 on tuesday night in the first game of the Champions League group stages.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez will return to best

– He will be back very quickly to his best, said the Frenchman to BBC.

Arsenal agreed a £60m deal with Manchester City for Alexis Sanchez, but that deal depended on them to sign Thomas Lemar, who decided to stay with Monaco.

– The transfer market is over, there was a lot going on. It's very difficult to speak about because Lemar is now at Monaco and has to focus there, Sanchez is here and his focus is here," Wenger added.

Arsenal host Bournemouth at Emirates Stadium on Saturday (15:00 BST kick-off).

Chastened Chelsea sign Drinkwater, Zappacosta

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte saw moves for several targets fail to come off over the course of the transfer window, but has managed to boost his squad ahead of his side's Champions League campaign.

Drinkwater, 27, has signed a five-year contract in a deal reported to have cost Chelsea £35 million ($45.1 million, 37.9 million euros), which was announced two and a half hours after Thursday's transfer deadline passed.

"I'm delighted to be a Chelsea player and can't wait to get started," Drinkwater told the Chelsea website.

"It has been a long journey to get here, but I am very happy and am looking forward to helping the club win more trophies."

The transfer reunites Drinkwater with N'Golo Kante, with whom he formed the all-action central midfield partnership that helped Leicester to their fairytale Premier League triumph in 2016.

Zappacosta, 25, has signed a four-year deal and is believed to have set Chelsea back around £23 million.

He has been capped four times by Italy and played under Conte during his time as national coach.

"Davide is a player of international calibre who Antonio Conte knows well and we have been aware of for some time," said Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo.

"We are very pleased to be able to bring him to the club and believe he will become an important member of the squad."

Tempering Chelsea's satisfaction at the moves for Drinkwater and Zappacosta was the knowledge that several targets eluded them on deadline day.

England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected their approach in favour of joining Liverpool from Arsenal and Spanish striker Fernando Llorente elected to move to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur from Swansea City.

In a further twist, 23-year-old England midfielder Ross Barkley changed his mind after undergoing a medical at Chelsea and decided to stay at Everton.

"The two clubs agreed a deal of £35 million and I think personal terms were agreed," Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri told Sky Sports News.

"After the medical we heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley's agent, that he had changed his mind and wanted to reconsider his position in the January window.

"He's currently injured so technically he will be with us. He is under contract for another year. It's a big surprise, but that's football."

Chelsea had previously completed moves for goalkeeper Willy Caballero, defender Antonio Rudiger, midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Spain striker Alvaro Morata, who joined from Real Madrid in a club-record £58 million deal.

Hummels faces warning over daredevil jump video

Germany have won all six qualifiers so far and could secure their place at next year's World Cup by beating the Czech Republic in Prague on Friday if other results go their way before hosting Norway in Stuttgart on Monday.

However, Hummels posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday, shot on a break in Croatia after Bayern Munich's 2-0 win at Werder Bremen on Saturday, of him leaping into a pool and narrowly missing the edge on landing.

The centre-back posted: "looks more spectacular than it actually is. #donttrythisathome" alongside the video, which attracted lots of comments from fans urging the World Cup winner to be more careful.

The 28-year-old's daredevil video, which attracted almost 300,000 views on Instagram and was used in an online article by Germany's most popular daily Bild, did not impress Germany's management so close to internationals.

Liverpool agree record deal to sign Keita

Liverpool will also reportedly pay an undisclosed premium for the 22-year-old, who scored eight goals in 31 league appearances last term to help Leipzig finish runners-up in the title race.

"Liverpool Football Club can confirm they have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the future transfer of Naby Keita," read Tuesday's Liverpool statement.

"The Reds have agreed a deal with the German club and the midfielder that will see the 22-year-old move to Anfield on July 1, 2018 following the conclusion of the current season."

Keita, who will be a pivotal figure in Leipzig's maiden Champions League campaign this term, said his present team remained his immediate priority but he was delighted to be joining such an historic club.

"I am delighted that an agreement has been reached which will allow me to join Liverpool Football Club next summer, when I will become part of a project that excites me greatly," Keita told the Liverpool website.

"My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. I have given my all every time I have worn the shirt -– that will be the case until the final whistle, in my final appearance.

"Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. Until I join my new club, next summer, I will remain an interested supporter from a distance."

Hamilton fears Ferrari consistency

The 32-year-old Briton, who reeled off his fifth win of the year to reduce Vettel’s lead to seven points with eight races remaining, said he jad found it difficult to resist the German’s attacks.

“I think Ferrari were ultimately quicker. I was just able to keep them at bay," said Hamilton. “But if our cars were reversed, I don’t think I would have been able to hold as close as he did.

"If anyone's out there thinking we have the best car this year then they need to think again because it's not the case… We might have the upper hand in power, but that’s not enough – we have to keep improving.”

Heading into Ferrari’s home race at the Italian Grand Prix, Hamilton knows he needs to make the most of Mercedes marginal power advantage in his bid to take the championship lead for the first time this year.

Mercedes introduced an upgraded engine at Spa-Francorchamps and their speed in straight lines on the long straights was critical to the result of qualifying and the race.

"I think we have the upper hand power-wise, but we've got to keep improving," added Hamilton.

"The pressure is on. The next race, package-wise, should be similar to this weekend, but when we get to Singapore that's really where the test is going to be – and where Ferrari should be really fast, as they were in Hungary…”
